Diversity and Inclusion

Best Buddies New Mexico

Best Buddies fosters one-to-one friendships between students with and without Intellectual Development Disabilities (IDD). Students with IDD can be isolated and left out of social activities. Best Buddies creates an inclusive culture for all students.

Our goal is to do two Best Buddies activities a month on the first and third Wednesday. One activity will be during the day and one will be an after school activity.

Keep an eye on our Calendar for Best Buddies events.

Special Olympics

We are so excited to announce that in 2018, the John Baker Best Buddies will be bringing Special Olympics to our campus! In this program, students with and without disabilities practice sports together with the goal to raise awareness about disabilities, to promote acceptance, and student leadership. To do this, students with special needs (athletes) “partner up” with their classmates in general education (partners) and attend practices and eventually an event.

The Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools Program is funded through various grants. Because of this, Special Olympics can promote this program for free for both students and participating schools.
